Steel plate engraving with etched detail of painting by James Walker (1876). Original painting is 7 feet by 20 feet that now resides in the Johnson Collection in Spartansburg, SC. Engraving dates from the1880s, I believe. Purchased by many Union veterans and Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Posts. Depicts the the assault on the Union lines on Cemetery Ridge July 3, 1863. More popularly known as Picketts Charge. Painting by Walker, historically arranged by John B. Bachelder. Contemporary historical background info and individuals depicted in the painting can be downloaded from the Internet.
Approximately 47 x 25 framed. Engraving is about 41 x 20. Funeral, black wooden frame. Glass covered (original period glass). Light reflections off the glass made photos a bit washed out and faded. Actual engraving is sharp and detailed. Original wire hanger in back.
Nice piece of US history. It has been in my family since 1916 when relatives of the veteran gave it to my father before they moved to California. Ready to hang in your museum.
